The distance from the Sun
May 7 – 12, 2018
The Gales Gallery, York University, Toronto
An exhibition composed of all the objects found in the gallery’s storage room.
I began moving objects from the storage room into the gallery space one at a time, paying attention to what happened to each space in the process. I paid attention to how the objects began to relate to one another, as well as to the floors and walls of both spaces. At a certain point, I sensed that every object had somehow acquired equal importance. Hierarchies such as useful, precious, broken, discarded, or trash were momentarily suspended. At that moment, I stopped moving objects. Throughout the exhibition both spaces were open to the public.
